First Dental Visit of Your Child

Your child’s deciduous teeth, also known as temporary teeth, primary teeth, milk teeth and baby teeth are very important to take care. Temporary teeth are the main foundation excellent permanent teeth. If “tooth lost” of these temporary occur at earlier time, there will be no more guide for the eruption of permanent teeth that will lead to “acute-angled corner” or abnormal tooth growth. 

To prevent early tooth lost, the first visit of your child to his dentist should happen as early as one year old. Early dental visits will help a lot for prevention of possible dental problems. Dentist can spot dental problem that we may have not even notice.
Dentists specially trained to attend to the dental needs of pediatric patients are called pedodontists. They are knowledgeable on certain techniques and methods that help anxious children feel secure during treatment. It will be wise to choose a dentist who:

  • Is more interested in prevention and educates you about preventing dental problems from even starting.
  • Recommends methods of prevention rather than cure.
  • Gives home instructions on oral and dental hygiene and care.

Your child’s first dental visit may seem very scary to him. You’ll need to calm your child down when he has a tantrum. Don’t try to scare him by saying the dentist will do something bad to him if he does not behave. This will only raise his anxiety.
